Bible Text: 1 Peter 1:13 | Stephen Weenink
Series: He Is We Are
Healthy human thinking isn’t centred around instinctual or emotional modes of reasoning. Part of being created in God’s image involves the blessing that humans have been given rational minds to process our emotions and guide our will and actions.
Our minds give us the ability to process our emotions and thoughts and tell ourselves how to feel and act.
We see an example of this in Psalm 43:5. The Psalmist is obviously not in a good frame of mind, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?”
Instead of letting these emotions guide his actions and life, the Psalmist’s mind tells his emotions what to do, “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
