Doing the will of God and continuing the redeeming work of Jesus is food for the Christian… It satisfies our souls that hunger and thirst for eternity.
When Christians are disengaged from doing what Jesus did, we look for satisfaction in things that don’t satisfy. We look in the direction where the world points to for its satisfaction.
Like the woman at the well, who looked to relationship for satisfaction, we look to things like position, possessions, power, pleasure…
As Jesus said, “Anyone who drinks from this well will soon become thirsty again.”
- The things of this world aren’t designed to satisfy our deepest longings.
- They crumble under the expectations of eternity. Leave us thirsty again.
A life of godliness, contentment, and meaningful Kingdom involvement can bring the satisfaction that we are looking for:
- Yes, it is hard work. Yes, it can be tiring.
- But it also satisfies – it’s a kind of food you know nothing about…
