Can you relate to this? "I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway."
The Pharisees and religious leaders believed that pleasing God came from avoiding things in the world that could defile their souls. They believed adhering to tradition, rituals and rules would make them presentable before a holy God. Jesus challenges this notion asserting that nothing outside of the body can defile us, and that everything that is sinful already exists within us. What God really desires is inward transformation... and it's a work only He can do FOR us.
