Series: Jesus Is ___________.
The ancient Hebrew concept of peace, is rooted in the word "shalom," which means wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety and prosperity, not just temporary, but lasting, permanent.
- Shalom was a common greeting, mentioned as hello or goodbye.
- But it was more than a greeting; it was a blessing.
- “May God cause all to be well with you.”
Everyone wants shalom. What do we look for wholeness/wellness in? Wealth, possessions, and financial success. Family, friendship and belonging. Pleasure, experiences and adventure.
Followers of Jesus believe that Jesus is the Prince of Shalom:
- He ultimately brings wholeness, soundness, and fullness to our lives.
- Not just on a physical level, but on an emotional and spiritual level.
- Not a temporary satisfaction, but one that lasts into eternity.
Jesus says (Jn. 14:27), “I am leaving you with a gift—shalom (wholeness, wellness) of mind and heart. And the shalom (wholeness, wellness) I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
