Bible Text: Genesis 45:1-7 | John Cook
This Sunday Pastor John goes off-script...
John tells the story of Joseph, the youngest son of Jacob, who was betrayed and sold into slavery by his brothers due to jealousy. Despite the circumstances of Joseph's life, God used him mightily to not only preserve the lives of his own family, but also the lives of many who lived in the region.
The story finds its culmination in the following verses:
“I am Joseph!” he said to his brothers. “Is my father still alive?” But his brothers were speechless! They were stunned to realize that Joseph was standing there in front of them. “Please, come closer,” he said to them. So they came closer. And he said again, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into slavery in Egypt. But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives."
In the same way that Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers (and his brothers were afraid), God reveals His identity to you and our shame makes us afraid. Yet, He asks us to come closer... Will you draw near to Him so He can wash away your sin and your shame?
