Bible Text: 1 John 3:11-19 | ,

Series:

Francis Schaeffer, “Truth always carries with it confrontation.  Truth demands confrontation; loving confrontation nevertheless.  If our reflex action is always accommodation regardless of the centrality of the truth involved, there is something wrong.

Essentially, what Schaeffer says, is that if we really love people, then the truth we carry with us will be confrontational.  Jesus always called people out of where they were and into the greater reality of how life was truly meant to be lived.

John 8:10-11, Jesus speaking to the woman caught in adultery, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”  11 “No, Lord,” she said.  And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.

Jesus doesn’t condemn this woman’s obvious sin, but He points her in the direction of freedom from sin.  Jesus was always a solutions person, He wasn’t a problems person.  Later in the same chapter, Jesus says,

I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

  • Christians ought to be solutions people – not just pointing out problems.
  • Our truth needs to walk itself out by lovingly walking people to freedom.
